Casper's pick of games at halftime and in the 3rd quarter ain't much better(Chiefs over Colts in playoff game leading by 28). I honestly have no clue what their financial situations are. The only reason I can see passing up a chance at a free $500 would be pride. If you "shame" them into accepting, in a way you win regardless of the bowl contest. That's the the only reason I can see.

I hear ya. I think the main reason is, they get their picks from paid services and can't make a bet until they get told what to bet. That is the main reason. Just so weird that people would be that scared. I would post hockey picks for a free crack at money...and I never watch a game.
